MA / MSc

       

This module aims to equip students with the necessary background knowledge required for research such as research philosophies, paradigms and theories. It focuses on a range of topics within research such as literature review, critical evaluation, identification of research questions, writing a research proposal, design research, empirical software research methods, data collection strategies, ethical and access issues, presentation and dissemination of research, research management and the role of the supervisor.

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

(i) justify the choice, design and implementation of research     direction and methods relative to the relevant literature,     research philosophies and methodologies.

(ii) appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of a range of     research methods.

(iii) select and use appropriate research methods.

(iv) reflect critically on the role of the researcher.

(v) manage the ethical considerations involved in empirical     research, and

(vi) effectively disseminate their findings.
