This module aims to give the student a theoretical and practical knowledge of the basics of studio recording technology and music production techniques.

Syllabus

Room acoustics, microphone placement, sound propogation, absorbtion, reflection and diffusion. Localisation and Spatialisation of sound. Recording of ensemble and individual instruments, multi-microphone techniques, stereo techniques, support microphones, binaural techniquess, quadraphonic, surround sound, Dolby and ambisonics. Aesthetic principles of musical recording, the studio as an instrument. Multi track editing techniques, effects processing, audio mastering and safety in the studio envifronment.
