MA / MSc

       

This module aims to give the student a theoretical and practical knowledge of the basics of MIDI and audio editing using computer based Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software aswell as introducing them to the basic principles of computer programming.

Syllabus

Development of protocols for music data transferf and storage. MIDI data structures and developments (ZIPPI, OSC). DAW environments (Pro-Tools, Logic), computer based music programming and sampling technology, application of non-keyboard based controllers, audio processing and manipulation, audio synthesis plug-ins and parameter automation, integrating alternative software into a DAW environment, video integration, composition using DAW environments. The role of programming in digitized media, programming practices, introduction to object orientated design, how sound is encoded and manipulated.
